About
Luis F. Queme, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). He holds a BS and MD from Francisco Marroquin University (Guatemala City, 2007) and a PhD in Cell Information Medicine from Nagoya University (Japan, 2013). His research focuses on neuroimmune interactions in chronic pain, particularly the role of macrophages in muscle pain using molecular biology, ex-vivo electrophysiology, and AI-driven behavioral analysis. Current work is supported by NIH funding.
Education:
- BS/MD, Francisco Marroquin University (2007)
- PhD, Nagoya University (2013)
Research Interests: Chronic pain mechanisms, neuroimmune cross-talk, cardiovascular reflex modulation, and stress-induced pain. His NIH-funded projects investigate macrophage contributions to long-lasting muscle pain through multidisciplinary approaches.
Awards:
- American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship
Advising/Grants: NIH-funded principal investigator. Former postdoctoral training under Dr. Michael Jankowski at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital focused on muscle afferents and cardiovascular reflexes.
Labs/Teams: Leads research in pain mechanisms at UNE COM, integrating computational and experimental methodologies.
