Luis Abanto Rojas is Assistant Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Ottawa, where he chairs the Spanish Undergraduate Program and coordinates Spanish language instruction. His research examines intercultural narratives and pedagogical approaches to Hispanic literature.
Academic focus includes:
- Hispanic literary traditions from Conquest to modernity
- Intercultural contact and hybrid identity formation
- Spanish language curriculum development
- Literary translation studies
- Migration and diaspora narratives
Teaching spans elementary to advanced Spanish language courses (ESP1991-3992), Hispanic culture (ESP2912), literature surveys (ESP3946), and specialized seminars on teaching methodologies (ESP4903). He developed the institution's Spanish language course sequence (ESP1991-3992) and administers the program.
Service includes previous membership on the Council on Undergraduate Studies (2016-2023) and Faculty of Arts committees.
