About
Luigi Raffaelli serves as Professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (ABABO), where he teaches specialized courses in illustration and graphic design. Since 2006, he has maintained a dual career path, teaching at the Academies of Fine Arts in Bologna and Macerata while continuing professional work in the publishing industry.
His teaching focuses on practical application of illustration techniques for publishing, with courses including Elements of editorial graphics (ABPR19) for first-year Illustration students and Illustration Techniques for Publishing I & II (ABPC67) for Comics and illustration students in their second and third years. Raffaelli employs a laboratory-based teaching approach where students develop narrative and evocative illustrations, work with textual content, and master technical aspects of book illustration including picture books where text and images maintain profound connections.
Before and alongside his academic career, Raffaelli has collaborated with over twenty publishing houses and cultural institutions including Mondadori ragazzi, Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, Einaudi, and international publications like Freundin (Germany) and Ear Books (Germany). His office hours are Monday 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM (online) and Wednesday 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (in-person at Magnus), with appointments requested via email.
