About
Ludovic Renson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He holds a Research Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering focused on advancing testing methods for nonlinear structures. Prior to joining Imperial in 2019, he was a Research Associate at the University of Bristol's Department of Engineering Mathematics and earned his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Liège (Belgium) in 2014.
His research interests span dynamics and control of nonlinear systems, combining numerical and experimental methodologies. Key areas include nonlinear structural dynamics, bifurcation analysis, and control-based continuation techniques. He is affiliated with Applied Mechanics and Dynamics research groups within Imperial.
Renson has received notable awards such as the 2017 Doak Prize, 2014 ENOC Young Scientist Prize, and a 2013 best student paper award. He is an active member of professional bodies including the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), SIAM, and ASME.
His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, integrating mechanical engineering with applied mathematics to address challenges in nonlinear systems, structural optimization, and aerospace applications. Recent projects involve model predictive control of nonlinear vibrations and topology optimization of friction dampers.
