Delft University of TechnologyAbout
Dr. Ludovic Jourdin is an Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Applied Sciences, Department of Biotechnology (Bioprocess Engineering section). His research focuses on microbial electrosynthesis for converting CO2 and organic waste into valuable chemicals using renewable electricity. He leads the Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology group, which explores Power-to-X processes to address climate change and sustainability challenges.
Education:
- PhD in Environmental Biotechnology (2015), University of Queensland, Australia
- Postdoctoral Research, Wageningen University (2015–2018)
- Chemical Engineering Degree, University of Montpellier, France
Research Interests: Microbial electrosynthesis, CO2 conversion, bioelectrochemical systems, and sustainable chemical production. His group employs multiscale approaches (nanometer to meter scales) to optimize reactor design, electrode materials, and process integration for industrial scalability.
Key Achievements:
- 2023 H.I. Waterman Sustainability Award
- 2018 Innovation Award for Technological Advancement
- Prominent publications in Current Biology, Nature, and Molecular Biology and Evolution.
Advising & Labs: Supervises PhD and MSc students in projects like C1-to-XOH (alcohol production from CO2) and multi-scale modeling of microbial electrosynthesis. His lab collaborates with the TUD e-Refinery Institute to advance e-biorefinery technologies.
