Lucy Hoyes

Lucy Hoyes serves as a Senior Teaching Fellow and Programme Director for the PGCE Secondary course at the Southampton Education School, University of Southampton. With an MA in Professional Enquiry and SFHEA status, she specializes in mathematics education and teacher development.

Dr. Hoyes' research focuses on developing numeracy skills across the curriculum, particularly within mathematics education. As a member of the Mathematics and Science Education research group, she explores effective strategies for integrating numeracy in diverse subject areas and enhancing teacher training programs through projects like the Erasmus+ Research in Teacher Education (RiTE).

She has been recognized with the Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) for her excellence in teaching.

In teaching, Lucy leads the Secondary Mathematics PGCE programme and serves as Module Lead for the Mentoring and Staff Development module on the MSc Education (Online). Her extensive experience as a secondary mathematics teacher and former Head of Mathematics informs her approach to mentoring early-career educators, particularly through PGCE Secondary Assignment 3 on Numeracy Across the Curriculum.
