Lucy Freedman is a Teaching Associate and PhD candidate in Drama at Queen Mary University of London’s School of English and Drama. Her research investigates criminalization, subject formation in the bourgeois British state, and intersections of care, carcerality, and the erotic. Supervised by Shane Boyle and Nick Ridout, her work critiques legal and performance structures reproducing state power. She co-organized the 2022 ‘Performance and State Violence’ conference.
Teaching includes modules like DRA114 (Theatre, Experiment and Revolution) and DRA261 (London, Performance, Now). Research interests span Marxist feminism, abolitionist theory, legal studies, and radical pedagogy. She edits the marxist-feminist journal Invert and has published in Historical Materialism and Invert Journal. Conference contributions address legal subjectivity, state violence, and contemporary performance.
