Lucius Couloute is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Trinity College, having earned his PhD in sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research examines the causes and consequences of mass criminalization, with specific focus on:
- Unemployment and housing insecurity among formerly incarcerated individuals
- Structural racism in the criminal justice system
- Organizational production of inequality
- Reentry-related exclusions
- Identity formation among criminalized populations
His current projects include studies on cash transfers for people with felony records, experiences of Black women with criminalized partners, economic exploitation in the justice system, and identity formation post-incarceration. Dr. Couloute employs anti-racist, afro-futuristic, and intersectional frameworks in both research and teaching, challenging students to critically examine social constructions of race, class, and gender.
