Lucio Piccirillo is Professor of Radioastronomy Technology in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Theory Group at the University of Manchester. He obtained his PhD from the University of Rome in 1985 on Cosmic Microwave Background measurements. His career includes positions at the European Space Agency, University of Delaware, University of Wisconsin, and Cardiff University before joining Manchester in 2006.
Research focuses on:
- Cosmic Microwave Background polarization measurements
- Radio detection of ultra-high energy neutrinos and axions
- Development of cryogenic low-noise amplifiers
- Sub-Kelvin refrigerator design
- Quasi-optical interferometers
His experimental work contributes to major projects including POLARBEAR, QUIJOTE, and QUBIC, with recent publications on atmospheric polarization measurements, anomalous microwave emissions, and CMB B-mode detection technologies.
