About
Dr. Lucas Caire da Silva is an Assistant Professor in Chemistry at McGill University. He completed his B.Sc. at the University of Campinas (2010), Ph.D. at the University of Florida (2015), and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (2016-2020), where he later served as Research Group Leader (2020-2023).
His research develops sustainable chemical processes inspired by biological systems, focusing on:
- Design of synthetic nano/microreactors mimicking cellular organization
- Hierarchical materials for improved catalytic efficiency
- Artificial organelles for cellular integration
- Multi-component catalytic transformations
He teaches multiple courses including CHEM 204 (Physical Chemistry/Biological Sciences 1), CHEM 574 (Introductory Polymer Chemistry), and graduate seminars (CHEM 650/651). His research group explores bioinspired solutions to overcome limitations of traditional chemical synthesis like waste generation and inefficient multi-step reactions.
