Dr. Lourdes Manyé is an Associate Professor of Spanish at Furman University, specializing in 20th/21st-century Spanish literature, exile narratives, and Catalan cultural studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina and dual B.A. degrees from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her research focuses on historical memory, particularly the legacy of the Spanish Civil War and Republican exile.
She has directed Furman’s Spain study abroad program and organized academic events like Furman Engaged. Notable awards include the Furman Meritorious Advising Award (2015-16) and an NEA Literary Fellowship (2005). Manyé has translated Catalan poet Miquel Martí i Pol and contributed to academic journals like Ausa and Hispania.
Her teaching includes courses on exile literature, historical memory, and Catalan culture. She served as President of the North American Catalan Society (2013-2017) and remains active in Catalan cultural preservation efforts.
