Lori Smithey is an Assistant Professor in the Architecture Program at the University of Idaho's College of Art and Architecture. She holds a PhD in Architectural History & Theory from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science in Architectural History & Theory from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union.
Her research examines social and environmental challenges within the built environment through critical analysis of disciplinary power structures, identity narratives, and creative agency. She investigates how architectural practices intersect with issues of social equity and environmental sustainability.
Professor Smithey teaches courses including Architectural Design III, Global History of Architecture, and specialized topics studios. Her pedagogical approach connects historical perspectives with contemporary design challenges.
