Lorenzo Mucchi

Lorenzo Mucchi serves as Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering (DINFO) within the School of Engineering at the University of Florence. He actively supervises PhD candidates through international joint programs including collaborations with University of Technology Sydney, MIT's Wireless Communication Laboratory, Centre for Wireless Communications in Oulu, and Yokohama National University.

His research spans wireless communications with specialized expertise in Visible Light Communications, Physical-layer Security, Ultra Wide Band systems, and Body Area Networks for healthcare applications. Key focus areas include:

• Localization techniques for medical and industrial environments
• Quantum cryptography and biometric encryption
• Cooperative networks and distributed power control
• Molecular and nanoscale communications
• Blockchain applications for security

Mucchi leads multiple EU-funded research initiatives including ODIN (AI healthcare delivery), ROVER (wireless body-centric transmission), and WiGIM (ground instability monitoring). His work demonstrates strong industry integration through projects like DISMATED (digital textile manufacturing) and CLOSE-TECH4.0 (smart factory localization).

Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in IoT for Body Area Networks, ICT systems for business management, and Industrial/Medical Cyber Physical Networks across both Engineering and Humanities schools. He has developed specialized thesis topics in UWB localization, vehicle-to-vehicle signaling, and medical sensor networks.
