Lorcan McGarvey

Professor Lorcan McGarvey is a Clinical Professor and Consultant Respiratory Physician at Queen's University Belfast's Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. He directs Northern Ireland's Specialist Cough Clinic and leads EU-funded respiratory research.

Research focuses on chronic cough mechanisms, COPD pathogenesis, and airway ion channel function. Clinical trials investigate novel cough therapeutics including camlipixant and valaciclovir for viral suppression in COPD.

Key publications explore brainstem processing in cough hypersensitivity and epithelial senescence in COPD. He serves on international guideline committees and coordinates the €7.7M BREATH program across three institutions.
