Long Chen

Long Chen is Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine. His research develops computational methods for solving partial differential equations through finite element analysis and numerical linear algebra.

Research advances include hybridizable finite elements, multigrid solvers, and accelerated optimization techniques. Recent work focuses on finite element complexes, distributional formulations, and efficient implementations for high-dimensional problems.

Develops open-source software packages including iFEM for adaptive finite element methods. Teaching includes numerical analysis, optimization, and computational PDE courses.
