Lone Madsen is a Professor at the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She leads research in fish and shellfish diseases, focusing on aquaculture disease management, fish immunology, and microbial pathogen control. Her work addresses sustainable aquaculture practices and antibiotic alternatives.
Research interests include rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) health, Flavobacterium psychrophilum infections, bacteriophage applications, and water quality improvement strategies. Key projects include ProBiOzon (water quality optimization), Sund Akvakultur (antibiotic-free aquaculture), and LTA Boost (blue food sustainability).
Recent publications explore gut microbiota’s role in disease resistance, high-throughput diagnostics for coinfections, and disinfection mechanisms of peracetic acid. She supervises PhD students such as Cialini and Nair, with active collaborations across Denmark and internationally.
