About
Lluís Salo-Salgado is a Research Fellow at Harvard University, affiliated with the Structural Geology & Earth Resources Group. He earned his PhD in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2023.
- PhD Thesis: "Numerical Modeling of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage in Faulted Siliciclastic Settings"
Lluís's research focuses on understanding geologic uncertainty, subsurface CO2 migration, and induced seismicity. His work aims to improve coupled flow and geomechanics models for reservoir and basin-scale applications, supporting energy transition technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen storage, and geothermal energy.
Currently, he is analyzing the impact of over a century of reservoir operations on earthquake activity in the Los Angeles Basin, leveraging multidisciplinary datasets to validate models with global relevance for tectonically active regions.
