Lizzy Hoole is a Senior Lecturer in Children and Young People's Nursing at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the College of Health, Science and Society and the HAS - Nursing and Midwifery department. She holds qualifications including a BSc Specialist Practice, a Dip HE in Children's Nursing, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Her clinical career spans over 12 years at the Bristol Children's Hospital, where she worked as a Staff Nurse in Haematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant Units, and later as a Clinical Research Nurse. From 2021–2023, she served as a Band 7 Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) Facilitator, integrating genomics into pediatric and adult cancer care. Since 2022, she has transitioned to full-time academic roles at UWE, focusing on nursing education.
Lizzy teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules in palliative care, cancer care, and clinical practice. She currently leads the Undergraduate Palliative Care Module and post-registration modules in Cancer Care and Palliative Care. She also supports student placements as an Academic in Practice at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
Her research interests include paediatric haematology/oncology nursing, genomics in clinical practice, and nursing education innovation. She is pursuing an MSc in Professional Development Award to further her academic credentials.
