Lizbeth Goodman

Professor Lizbeth Goodman is a Full Professor of Inclusive Design for Education and Chair of Creative Technology Innovation at University College Dublin (UCD). She directs the Inclusive Design Research Centre of Ireland and SMARTlab, focusing on accessible technologies for diverse populations. Her work emphasizes inclusive design, assistive technologies, and interdisciplinary innovation. Goodman holds academic roles in UCD's School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and College of Engineering & Architecture. She has supervised over 55 PhD students and authored/co-authored 14 books and numerous peer-reviewed articles.

Education: BA, MLitt (University of Cambridge), MA (Washington University), PhD (Open University).

Research interests span inclusive education, assistive technologies, virtual reality, and social entrepreneurship. Key projects include the Screen4Care EU initiative for genetic newborn screening and the Academy4theFuture, launched at Davos. Goodman has pioneered programs like the practice-based PhD in creative industries and the MAGIC Multimedia and Games Innovation Centre.

Awards include WEF Women's 'Woman of the Decade' (2019), Best Woman in Technology (2008), and inclusion in CSR Global's Top 50 Social Innovators (2015). She leads major grants such as the €8.9M Marie Curie ASSISTID project for assistive tech and co-leads the €6M Learnovate Centre.

Grants and collaborations involve EU initiatives, industry partners (Microsoft, IBM), and global networks. Goodman also chairs IEEE committees on accessibility in VR and advises organizations like the Science Gallery Dublin.

Labs include SMARTlab and the Inclusive Design Research Centre, focusing on real-world impact through technology. Current projects explore VR/AR for social change, inclusive gaming, and health informatics.
