Liza Meyers

Liza Meyers serves as Assistant Professor of Vocal/General Music Education at Eastern Illinois University, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, supervises student teachers, and co-coordinates the Music Education masters program. She holds Orff and Kodály certifications and has 19 years of public school teaching experience in diverse settings including rural, suburban, and urban schools across Ohio, Arizona, and New York.

Her educational background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Master of Music (MM) from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from Capital University Conservatory of Music. She previously held positions as Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University and adjunct instructor at Adelphi University.

Dr. Meyers' research centers on pre-service music teacher development and gender in music education. As a nationally recognized clinician, she presents workshops on sight-singing, world music, creative movement, Kodály and Orff methodologies, and inclusive classroom strategies. Her work emphasizes practical applications for fostering joy in music learning across diverse student populations.

Her significant accolade is the Japan Fulbright Scholarship, which enabled immersive study of music education in Tokyo and Shiogama. She also holds Orff and Kodály certifications, reflecting deep expertise in these pedagogical approaches.

In advisory roles, Dr. Meyers mentors student teachers and graduate researchers while serving as Treasurer for the Central Illinois Kodály Educators. Her professional contributions include authoring materials for Heritage Music Press and presenting research at conferences such as NAfME and SMTE, establishing her as a leader in innovative music pedagogy.
