Professor Liz Stanley is a sociologist at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Social and Political Science and the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on historical sociology, feminist theory, sociological theory, cultural sociology, and decolonial thought. She leads projects such as 'Whites Writing Whiteness' (WWW), examining racialisation in South Africa through archival research, and the Olive Schreiner Letters Project. Her recent publication 'Olive Schreiner’s The Dawn of Civilisation: & Other Unpublished Wartime Writings' (2018) explores war’s socio-political complexities through Schreiner’s writings. Professor Stanley’s work integrates Norbert Elias’s figurational sociology and emphasizes intersectional and decolonial methodologies.
