Liz Gabbett

Liz Gabbett serves as a Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Manager at the University of Limerick's School of History and Geography. She supports undergraduate geography modules including Physical Geography, Natural Hazards, and Sustainability. Her previous roles include Project Officer for the Maigue Rivers Trust and administrator for UL environmental initiatives.

Research Interests:
Gabbett focuses on freshwater ecosystem conservation, geographic information systems, and sustainability education. She collaborates on projects like citizen science biodiversity surveys and river catchment stewardship, emphasizing community engagement and environmental policy.

Publications Focus:
Her research addresses river catchment management and heritage conservation, employing geospatial tools and community-based approaches to tackle environmental degradation.

Awards:

• UL President’s Staff Excellence Award for Sustainability (2025)

Outreach & Committees:
She designed the "Geography Rocks" workshop for schools, developed a national bumblebee identification course, and leads UL's Arboretum Committee. She also contributes to bat and rare plant monitoring programs.
