Livia Rosa Lara

Livia Rosa Lara is a PhD candidate in Fashion Design at the University of Minho and University of Beira Interior, concurrently serving as a Researcher at the Center for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T) within UMinho's Department of Textile Engineering. Her academic foundation includes a Master's in Design and Marketing of Textile Products (2019) and Bachelor's in Textile Engineering (2015) from Brazil's State University of Maringá.

Lara's research pioneers sustainable color innovation in fashion, focusing on eco-dyeing methodologies and circular design education. She investigates how sustainable color practices can reduce textile industry pollution while enhancing design pedagogy, with particular emphasis on natural dye extraction, water conservation, and material lifecycle management. Her work bridges technical textile engineering with creative fashion applications to address environmental challenges.

Her 2022 publications establish foundational frameworks for ecological textile dyeing and sustainable color education, revealing industry trends toward natural dyes, waste reduction, and circular design thinking. Earlier conference work (2016) analyzed technical denim properties including shrinkage and stretch behavior, demonstrating her consistent focus on material-performance relationships in sustainable garment development.

As an FCT-funded PhD scholar, Lara contributes to academic training through UMinho's Fashion Design Project V course and BE@T Project workshops on sustainable textile practices. Her grant-funded research 'Strategies to enhance eco-coloring practices' directly informs teacher training programs for circular economy implementation in Portuguese textile education.
