About
Livia Rosa Fernandes is a Research Fellow in Neuroproteomics at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University (since 2022). She previously held postdoctoral positions at University of Southern Denmark (2016-2019) and University of São Paulo (2019-2022).
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Medical Sciences, University of São Paulo Medical School (2015)
- Master in Biological Sciences (Genetics), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2010)
- Bachelor in Biomedical Sciences, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2007)
- Biotechnology, Federal Technical School of Chemistry (2001)
Her research focuses on molecular signaling in pathological and physiological events using mass spectrometry-based proteomics and in vitro models to study neurodegenerative diseases (ALS, glioblastoma), Zika virus effects on neural/ocular development, and COVID-19 pathogenesis. Recent work explores glycosylation in cancer and protein aggregates in neurodegeneration.
Key publication trends show proteomics applications in neuro-oncology, viral pathogenesis, and machine learning for biomarker discovery. She holds the Gilberto B. Domont Award for Young Investigator (2022) and contributes to proteomics societies (HUPO, APS, BrProt).
