Lisa Young Larance is an Assistant Professor at Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Her work bridges clinical practice and academia, focusing on trauma-informed interventions and systemic justice issues. She holds a joint PhD in Social Work and Sociology from the University of Michigan, an MSW from Washington University’s Brown School, and a BA in Women’s Studies from Smith College.
Her research examines intersections of intimate partner violence, gender, race, and criminalization. She employs mixed methods to amplify marginalized voices and promote systemic change. Her book Broken: Women’s Stories of Intimate and Institutional Harm and Repair (University of California Press) explores resilience narratives. She has over 20 years of clinical experience providing therapy and developing programs for systems-involved populations globally.
Larance’s consulting work addresses prison-based and community needs through curricula development. She emphasizes dismantling oppressive systems while fostering individual/community well-being through evidence-based practice.
