Lisa Y. Dillon

Prof. Lisa Y. Dillon is a Full Professor and Director of the Département de démographie at Université de Montréal’s Faculté des arts et des sciences. Her research focuses on historical demography, family structures, and aging patterns in Canada and the U.S., with expertise in Quebec and Canadian history. She holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Minnesota (1997).

• Roles: Department Director, Co-Editor of Historical Methods, Past President (2023-2024) of the Social Science History Association.

Her work explores social reproduction dynamics, census data analysis, and historical population trends. She leads major projects like Settling the Canadian West (2025-2030) and Transcender les frontières (2024-2030), funded by SSHRC and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. She advises over 9 graduate students on topics ranging from Indigenous family structures to fertility transitions in Mexico.
