Lisa Swain is a Professor of Liberal Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) since Spring 2022. Previously, she served as Associate Professor and Departmental Chair at Biola University's Cinema and Media Arts Department from 2005–2021. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Fielding University, an M.A. in Film Aesthetics/Production from Regent University, and a B.S. in Communications from Evangel University.
Her research interests bridge media studies, psychology, and film production, focusing on topics like social media's impact on identity, media consumption habits, and the psychological dimensions of storytelling. She has presented widely, including talks on 'Braving the Storm: Navigating Difference on Social Media' (APA, 2019) and 'Film as Sacred Space' (2012).
Swain's awards include the Student Academy Award (1991), Houston Film Festival Honorable Mention, and NY Film Festival Audience Award, all for her early work in filmmaking. She is affiliated with organizations like the American Psychological Association and Producers Guild of America.
Her publications include journal articles on fandom studies and book contributions on religion and media. She has extensive industry experience as a post-production and production coordinator on major films like State of the Union and Three Kings.
