Lisa Simmons

Dr. Lisa Simmons is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Central Clinical School of the University of Sydney’s Sydney Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She serves as a general cardiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with a focus on echocardiography for structural heart disease and maternal cardiovascular health in pregnancy. Her clinical roles include involvement in TAVI and Mitraclip programs, and she is an examiner for the DDU echocardiography certification.

Education and Training:

• PhD in cardiovascular adaptation to pregnancy (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney)
• Post-doctoral training in echocardiography at KU Leuven, Belgium
• DDU in echocardiography certification

Research Interests:

• Structural heart disease interventions
• Transcatheter valve repair/replacement
• Echocardiography applications in structural heart disease
• Cardiac management in pregnancy

Current Projects:

• Echocardiography support for first-in-man trials of percutaneous mitral valve replacement (Twelve device) and Pascal mitral valve clip
• Clinician-scientist role in the Heart Foundation CVRN Research Grant AMOSS longitudinal study tracking NSW/ACT mothers with heart disease and their infants

Teaching & Supervision:

• Cardiovascular Block teaching for Sydney medical students
• Echocardiography training for basic trainees
• Supervision of advanced trainees pursuing DDU certification
