Lisa Silverman

Dr. Lisa Silverman is Professor of History and Jewish Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Specializing in modern German and Austrian Jewish cultural history, she examines intersections of antisemitism, gender, and visual representation. Her forthcoming book, The Postwar Antisemite: Culture and Complicity after the Holocaust, analyzes post-Holocaust cultural dynamics.

Research explores Jewish visibility in Central Europe, Holocaust representation, and gender in interwar Vienna. Publications include Becoming Austrians: Jews and Culture between the World Wars and co-authored Holocaust Representations in History.

Honors include the 2022 Michael Hauck Visiting Professorship at Frankfurt’s Fritz Bauer Institute. She serves as Vice-Chair of the Leo Baeck Institute's Academic Advisory Board.
