Lisa Riedner is a cultural anthropologist currently leading the Emmy Noether junior research group "Contestations of the ‚Social‘ – Towards a movement-based ethnographic social (state) regime analysis" at the Institute for European Ethnology and Cultural Analysis, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. She has held guest and interim professorships at the University of Augsburg and the University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, where she taught on gender, migration, and globalization, and in the Master’s program "Flight, Migration, Society."
- PhD in Social Anthropology, University of Göttingen (summa cum laude)
- MA in Anthropological Research, University of Manchester
Her research centers on migration, border regimes, urban precarity, and social movements, with a strong commitment to blending academic, activist, and artistic practices. She explores how marginalized groups contest social and spatial exclusion, particularly in urban contexts across Europe and the US. Her work emphasizes ethnographic methods rooted in movement-based analysis and solidarity.
The recent publications and projects reflect a growing body of interdisciplinary scholarship focused on housing justice, labor rights of EU migrants, pandemic impacts on migrant workers, and transnational activism. Her research often bridges academic inquiry with public engagement through webinars, blog posts, and collaborative events.
- Emmy Noether Junior Research Group Grant
Lisa Riedner actively contributes to academic and civil society networks, including the editorial collective of the open-access journal movements, the kritnet network, and the Council of Migration. She was previously a board member of the Komitee für Grundrechte und Demokratie. Her work is deeply engaged with both scholarly and activist communities, reflecting a praxis-oriented approach to anthropology.
She has led and participated in public events and discussions on global housing crises, migrant labor, and civil courage, often in collaboration with grassroots organizations. Her fellowship at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles further underscores her transnational intellectual and activist engagement.
