Lisa Keller is a Professor of History at Purchase College (SUNY), affiliated with the School of Humanities. She specializes in trans-Atlantic history (England/US), women’s history, and urban studies. Her research focuses on New York, London, and Westchester County, with notable works including Triumph of Order (Columbia UP, 2008) and contributions to the Encyclopedia of New York City. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and a BA from Vassar College.
Her academic leadership roles include founding Purchase’s journalism program (1998-2008), directing the Purchase College History Project, and serving as executive editor of the Encyclopedia of New York City (2nd ed.). She is also an adjunct research scholar at Columbia University, chairing their Seminar on the City.
Keller’s awards include the Lehman Award (2012) and Urban History Association’s Best Book Prize (2009). She consults for the Museum of the City of New York and has received grants from NEH and the Gilder-Lehrman Institute.
