Lisa Hellman is an Associate Professor at Lund University and Research Leader at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (University of Bonn). She holds a PhD in History from Stockholm University (2015) and has held postdoctoral positions at institutions including the University of Tokyo and Freie Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on global history, early modern Asia, maritime studies, and gender, with a particular emphasis on coerced knowledge circulation and borderland dynamics.

Research Interests
Dr. Hellman explores intersections of social, cultural, and maritime history in East/Central Asia, examining topics such as European lives in Canton, diplomatic activities of prisoners/slaves in Russia/Central Asia, and Japan's emotional history. She leads the 'Coerced Circulation of Knowledge' research group in Bonn and directs Lund University's 'Moved Apart' initiative on separation experiences in early modernity.
