Ling Ma

Dr. Ling Ma is a Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering at the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary University of London. She serves as Director of the QMUL-BUPT Joint Teaching and Learning Centre (JTLC), Programme Director for e-Commerce Engineering with Law, and Subject Examination Board Chair for Queen Mary School Hainan (QMSH). Her academic affiliations include the ACM and IET, and she actively mentors and reviews Higher Education Academy (HEA) fellowship applications.

• Education: BEng in Automation and Control Engineering from Beijing University of Technology (2000); MSc (2001) and PhD (2005) in Computing Science from University of East Anglia.

Her research intersects modern software development methodologies, context-aware computing, and pedagogy innovations. Recent work focuses on UK-China transnational education (TNE) frameworks, flexible project supervision models, and interdisciplinary collaborations between software and hardware modules. Earlier contributions explored acoustic environment classification for context-aware applications.

Key publications include the 2022 book chapter on pandemic-era TNE challenges, 2023 conference papers on JTLC’s evolution, and seminal 2003-2006 works on acoustic classification. She has received multiple teaching awards, including the QMUL Education Excellence Award (2019, 2024) and Draper’s Prize (2011).
