Linfeng Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science at The Ohio State University (OSU), affiliated with the Department of Mathematics within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in Actuarial Science and Risk Analytics under Dr. Runhuan Feng and Dr. Wing Fung (Alfred) Chong. Prior to his current role, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Drake University (2022–2023) and worked as a research assistant at the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Institute, focusing on cyber risk and cyber insurance.
His research interests span actuarial science, quantitative risk management, and cybersecurity, with a focus on cyber risk assessment, pandemic risk modeling, and privacy risk. He has authored/co-authored studies published in high-impact journals such as the North American Actuarial Journal, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, and IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing.
Zhang has secured grants from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), Fundación MAPFRE, and Cisco. His recent work includes developing NLP-driven tools for cyber risk literature analysis (CyLit) and advancing compartmental models for pandemic insurance applications. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on topics ranging from cyber litigation costs to transportation infrastructure resilience.
