Ellegaard’s research investigates exhibition histories, art infrastructures, and institutional re-imaginings through feminist, intersectional, and collective lenses. She focuses on critical pedagogy, counter-archival processes, and how art institutions challenge hegemonic narratives via community-led learning. Her work emphasizes solidarity practices, infrastructural activism, and the political agency of art librarians and curators in transforming cultural institutions.
Analysis of her eight publications reveals consistent exploration of feminist and postcolonial exhibition histories across decades. Key themes include 1970s Danish art librarians’ infrastructural activism, transnational anti-apartheid exhibitions, and Nordic colonialism critiques, demonstrating how curatorial practices foster collective learning and institutional transformation through solidarity frameworks.
Ellegaard has secured major research funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and New Carlsberg Foundation. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in contemporary art, curating, and exhibition studies at the University of Copenhagen, with supervision expertise in feminist curatorial practice, archival methodology, and critical pedagogy.
She actively participates in collaborative research environments including the Transcultural Contact Zones project team and previously contributed to the Art as Forum centre, engaging in community-led initiatives that reimagine art institutions through intersectional and decolonial approaches.
