About
Professor Lim Jin-hee serves in the Department of Bioresource Engineering at Sejong University's College of Life Sciences, where he has been a faculty member since 2011. Previously, he worked as an Agricultural Researcher in the Floriculture Department at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration from 1993 to 2010.
His research focuses on floriculture genetics and breeding, with particular expertise in developing new chrysanthemum varieties through traditional breeding techniques. His work encompasses standardization of floriculture phenotypes, genetic analysis of useful traits, functional substance analysis, and development of industrial materials from ornamental plants. He also investigates IT integration in floriculture facilities and establishment of distribution systems.
Professor Lim's recent publications reveal a strong trend toward integrating artificial intelligence with traditional horticulture research, particularly using deep neural networks for disease recognition and phenotypic analysis in chrysanthemums. His work spans plant physiology, postharvest technology, phytochemistry, and molecular breeding, with significant contributions to understanding antioxidant properties in chrysanthemum species and developing eco-friendly floral preservation techniques.
His laboratory, the Floriculture Genetics and Breeding Research Lab (Da214C), has produced numerous patents related to cut flower longevity enhancers derived from natural extracts like Coptis chinensis and Gardenia jasminoides, as well as breeding novel chrysanthemum varieties with distinctive characteristics.
Professor Lim actively contributes to the field through frequent presentations at the Korean Society for Horticultural Science meetings and has developed several patented technologies for cut flower preservation and breeding. His research bridges traditional plant breeding with modern computational approaches, addressing both fundamental scientific questions and practical industry applications in floriculture.
