Liisa Lail

Liisa Lail is a Junior Lecturer in Contemporary History at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute of History and Archaeology (2024–2026). She previously held roles as a Junior Research Fellow and Project Assistant at the same institution (2023–2024). Her career includes teaching positions at Rakvere Ametikool (2020–present) and University of Tartu as a Teaching Assistant (2019–2020, 2021–2024).

Education:

Research Interests: Liisa specializes in Contemporary History (since 1914), focusing on gender roles, mental health services, and healthcare systems in post-WWII societies and Soviet Estonia. Her work bridges gender history with institutional analysis of healthcare provision and financing.

Recent Publications: One article (2021) examining historical gaps in mental health policy, published in Eesti Rahvusringhääling (Estonian Public Broadcasting).

Public Outreach: Active member of COST Action CA22159 working groups on healthcare provision, providers, and financing, aiming to unify European healthcare history research.
