Dr. Lidia Engel is a Senior Research Fellow at Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, specializing in Health Economics within the Health Economics Group. She holds an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship and is an Honorary Fellow at the National Ageing Research Institute. Her research focuses on quality-adjusted life year (QALY) frameworks, dementia interventions, and cost-effectiveness analyses of mental health and aging-related programs. She has led and contributed to over 98 publications and 35 research projects since 2014, including prominent work on loneliness, caregiver outcomes, and economic evaluations.
Education: PhD in Health Economics (Simon Fraser University), MSc in Health Sciences (Maastricht University), BSc in Health Economics (University of Cologne).
Research interests include:
- Health-related quality of life measurement
- Informal care valuation
- Economics of dementia and mental health
- Health preference studies
- Social isolation and aging
Notable projects include co-leading the Connecting for Better Health initiative and leading the ReDem study on proxy ratings in dementia. Awards include the 2020 Society for Mental Health Research Team Award.
