About
Lide Yao is a Senior Scientist and Researcher at Aalto University's Department of Applied Physics, affiliated with OtaNano. With a Doctoral degree in Natural Sciences from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2008), Yao specializes in advanced materials characterization using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and in situ techniques. His research focuses on functional materials, particularly thin films and oxide materials for energy storage applications like lithium-ion batteries. He has led multiple Academy of Finland-funded projects, including 'In-situ TEM/STEM Studies of Electrically Driven Oxides' (2015–2020), exploring structural phase transitions and material stability under electrical and mechanical probing.
Yao's work addresses challenges in high-energy-density batteries, magnetic materials, and thin film engineering. His recent studies investigate coating strategies for Ni-rich cathodes, Zr-doping effects in NMC811 materials, and high-entropy oxide thin films. Media highlights include breakthroughs in LiF-coated NMC811 electrodes (2024) and MoTe2-based optoelectronic applications (2023). His research consistently emphasizes structural stability, interfacial engineering, and operando characterization techniques.
