Liang Yan

Liang Yan is a professor at Trinity Western University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in Chinese studies, comparative religions, and biblical scholarship. He previously held roles at the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCMS), where he earned his PhD in 1990, and served as a research professor (part-time) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2009–2013). His career shifted post-2011 after a transformative spiritual experience, leading to studies in Christian theology at Logos Seminary (2014–2016) and a focus on integrating Christianity with Chinese culture.

His research explores intersections of ancient Chinese philosophy, religious practices, and biblical studies, with notable works on Taoism, Confucianism, and the cultural underpinnings of traditional medicine. Courses taught include Christianity and Chinese Culture, Comparative Religions, and New Perspectives on Chinese Mythology.

Awards: Recipient of China’s Science and Technology Achievement Award (1998), named one of China’s Top 10 Talents (2006), and recognized as an outstanding alumnus by Hubei TCM University (2008).

Teaching & Outreach: Teaches at multiple institutions including Trinity Western, ACTS Seminary, and international theological colleges. Serves as Chairman of the International Society of Christianity and Chinese Culture.

Labs/Teams: Engages in interdisciplinary research on spiritual warfare, biblical exegesis, and the cultural adaptation of Christian theology in East Asian contexts.
