Liam Heaney is Professor of Clinical Medicine at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, leading research at the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine. His work focuses on severe asthma mechanisms, medication adherence strategies, and precision medicine approaches for respiratory diseases.
He directs the UK Refractory Asthma Stratification Programme (RASP-UK) and coordinates the BTS UK Severe Asthma Network and National Registry. His research develops biomarker-based assessment tools for corticosteroid exposure and treatment response.
Recent publications focus on biological therapies for asthma, remission criteria development, glucocorticoid toxicity reduction, and respiratory disease epidemiology. His group conducts Phase II/III clinical trials investigating personalized therapeutics for severe asthma phenotypes.
