About
Dr. Liam Hayes serves as Senior Fellow and Director of the Centre for Ecclesial Ethics at the Margaret Beaufort Institute. He concurrently ministers as a priest in the Diocese of Brentwood at St. Stephen’s Catholic Parish, London, and advises CAFOD as Clergy and Theology Strategy Adviser.
His doctoral research examined disjunctions between Catholic teaching and practice in sexual ethics, establishing personal experience as a critical component of moral discernment. This foundation informs his ongoing scholarship at the intersection of lived faith and institutional theology.
Dr. Hayes specializes in Moral Theology with emphases on Ecclesial Ethics and Sexual Ethics. His work investigates experience as a theological locus, the ecclesial community's tutoring role in moral decision-making, and deep attentive listening as essential for Church renewal. These interconnected themes drive his interdisciplinary approach to contemporary ecclesial challenges.
Leading the Centre for Ecclesial Ethics, he directs initiatives that equip the Church through dialogical engagement across global Christian communities. The Centre's mission focuses on strengthening gospel witness by addressing emerging ethical dilemmas through collaborative analysis and practical theological reflection.
