Liam Haggarty is an Associate Professor of History and Canadian Studies in the Department of Humanities at Mount Royal University. He holds a BA (2004) and MA (2005) from the University of Victoria, and a PhD in Canadian Aboriginal History from the University of Saskatchewan (2015). His research focuses on Indigenous land use practices, economies, and their adaptations under settler colonialism in the 19th and 20th centuries. He is committed to education-based reconciliation and the resurgence of Indigenous knowledges related to environmental sustainability.
Previously served as Coordinator of Indigenization within the Division of Academic Affairs and co-convener of the Under Western Skies conference series. As a settler scholar in Treaty 7 territory, he prioritizes integrating Indigenous perspectives into academic and community initiatives. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary issues in decolonization and environmental stewardship.
