Dr. Li Hsu is an Affiliate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Washington and a member of the Public Health Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She holds additional affiliations with the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC) at Fred Hutch. Her work focuses on developing statistical methods for analyzing survival outcomes, genetics, and genomics data in cancer and chronic disease studies. Dr. Hsu also collaborates on large-scale observational studies, electronic health record analyses, and multi-omics data integration.
Education:
- PhD in Biostatistics, University of Washington (1994)
- MS in Biostatistics, University of Washington (1991)
- BS in Computer Science, Nanjing University (1989)
Research Interests: Dr. Hsu specializes in methodologies for absolute risk estimation, risk-based cancer screening, genome-wide association studies, and gene-environment interactions. Her research emphasizes analyzing genetic, genomic, and lifestyle data in population- and family-based studies, including tumor tissue gene expression, somatic mutations, and multi-omics integration. She also evaluates real-world impacts of genetic/biomarker risk factors using electronic health records.
Awards & Honors:
- American Statistical Association Fellow (2017)
- Prentice Professorship (2015)
- Merck Predoctoral Fellowship (1991-1994)
- Donovan J. Thompson Award (1991)
Grants & Collaborations: Recent grants include studies on colorectal cancer risk prediction, multi-ethnic population genomics, and inherited cancer genetics. Dr. Hsu leads the Hsu Group and contributes to the FHIND Cancer MorPhiC initiative.
