Lewis Williams

Lewis Williams is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, with a cross-appointment to the Indigenous Studies Program. He is also an Associate Fellow at the Centre for Global Studies (University of Victoria) and an Associate Adjunct Professor at the University of Saskatchewan's School of Public Health. His research focuses on Indigenous-led intergenerational resilience, social-ecological systems, and the revitalization of Indigenous knowledge systems. Born into Ngāi Te Rangi and Scottish/Welsh heritage, he holds a PhD in Social and Cultural Studies (Massey University) and a Master of Public Health (University of Auckland).

His work bridges academia and practice through initiatives like the Alliance for Intergenerational Resilience, a nonprofit addressing cultural and ecological crises. Key research themes include Indigenous education, transformative learning, and decolonial approaches to sustainability. Notable publications include *Indigenous Intergenerational Resilience* (2022) and co-authored works on radical human ecology.

Dr. Williams advises graduate students in Indigenous methodologies and teaches courses on contemporary Indigenous issues and geographic thought. His documentaries explore climate resilience through Indigenous-Europe transnational dialogues. He splits his time between Canada and Aotearoa, engaging with ancestral lands of Ngāi Te Rangi.
