Lewis Kahn

Professor Lewis Kahn is a Professorial Research Fellow at the University of New England, affiliated with the School of Environmental and Rural Science within the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business and Law. His work bridges research, industry, and policy, focusing on sustainable livestock production systems.

His research interests span a broad spectrum of agricultural science, particularly in livestock health, nutrition, reproduction, and survival. He investigates grazing management impacts on animal production and natural resources, and the nutritional and genetic regulation of host resistance to parasites. A key specialty is the epidemiology of gastrointestinal nematode parasites in ruminants, including host immunity and parasite ecology. His work integrates biophysical modelling and examines the industry adoption of innovation.

Professor Kahn has led large, multidisciplinary research teams, collaborating extensively with universities, state Departments of Primary Industries (DPIs), Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO, industry consultants, and Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs). This reflects a strong emphasis on translational research and real-world application.

He earned a BRurSci (First Class Honours) and a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Nutrition, both from the University of New England, establishing a long-standing academic and research connection to the institution.
