Dr. Lev Atlas is currently a Senior Lecturer in Strings at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Principal Viola of the Scottish Opera Orchestra. He holds a PhD in Russian Chamber Music from the University of St Andrews and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2013).
His career spans three continents, with notable roles including membership in the award-winning Rostov String Quartet and founder/leader of the internationally acclaimed Rachmaninov Trio. He is also a renowned Klezmer and Eastern European music performer, preserving hundreds of traditional tunes and influencing musicians across Europe.
Research interests focus on classical string performance, chamber music traditions, and cultural preservation of Eastern European musical heritage. His contributions span academic teaching, orchestral performance, and cross-cultural musical exploration.
