Letty García

Letty García is an Assistant Professor of Theater and Dance and Graduate Diversity Officer at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She holds a Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from UC Irvine, an M.A. in Shakespeare Studies (University of Birmingham, UK), and a B.A. in English and Comparative Literature (San Diego State University). Her research focuses on Shakespeare, critical race theory, pedagogy, and Latinx/Chicanx performance.

Research emphasizes intersections of race, performance theory, and cultural production. Recent collaborations include work with the San Diego Repertory Theatre, Los Angeles Shakespeare Center, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater. She is also advancing initiatives to support DREAM scholars and undocumented students in higher education. García grew up in the Imperial Valley and is a first-generation Mexicana academic.
