Lesley Storey

Lesley Storey is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the School of Psychology, Sport and Sensory Science. She specializes in social and political psychology, with a focus on health issues, particularly the psychosocial impact of cancer (e.g., sarcoma) and fear of recurrence. Her work also addresses inter-group conflict and social justice. Lesley joined ARU in 2022 after roles at Birmingham City University and Queen’s University Belfast.

Research Interests
Lesley’s research spans qualitative methods applied to health psychology, including cancer survivorship and dementia care. She explores how social identity frameworks explain ethno-nationalist populism and media narratives. Her current projects prioritize patient-reported experiences and quality-of-life measures in sarcoma care. Recent grants include collaborations on fear of recurrence and the Sarcoma Assessment Measure (SAM).

Teaching & Grants
Lesley leads modules like 'Research in Action: Qualitative Methods' and contributes to courses on 'Self and Society'. Her grants include:

• Co-Investigator on an international cancer survivorship study (ongoing)
• Development of the Sarcoma Assessment Measure (funded by Sarcoma UK)
• 'Re-Assure me' project exploring fear of recurrence in sarcoma patients (Sarcoma UK)

Presentations & Affiliations
Lesley presented on the Sarcoma Assessment Measure at the British Sarcoma Group (2022) and fear of recurrence at EMSOS (2022). She is a member of ARU’s Centre for Societies and Groups, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration on social and health-related research.
