Lesley G. Feracho is an Associate Professor of Romance Languages and African American Studies and Associate Director of the Institute for African American Studies at the University of Georgia. Her work bridges interdisciplinary fields, focusing on Afro-Hispanic literature, feminist theory, and cultural studies.
- B.A. in Spanish from Cornell University
- M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University
Research Interests: Feracho specializes in comparative studies of twentieth-century Afro-Hispanic and African American women's narratives, African American and Latin American feminist theory, race and popular culture in Latin America, identity and migration in Latin American contexts, Spanish and English Caribbean women's fiction, and Afro-Brazilian contemporary prose. Her scholarship explores intersections of race, gender, and cultural identity.
Recognition: She was named a 2019-2020 Willson Fellow, during which she conducted research in Brazil, engaging with black Brazilian feminist communities through cultural events and activism.
